In the most difficult of times our team, local people and our partner organisations have worked incredibly hard to create a safety net across the town. Making sure that those in crisis have somewhere to turn, and that once the worst is over there is a way to start rebuilding and moving forward.
From emergency food parcels and crisis cover to volunteering and work placements, from social connection to community celebration The Big League is committed to Hartlepool, is proud of our amazing town and people and refuses to accept the negative story so many want to tell.
We know how hard it is for people at this time but we also know how kind and resourceful our communities are. Together we are making a huge difference, we are uniting to help each other, using our creativity to develop new ideas and opportunities and making sure we share a laugh along the way.
Using the Power of Community to Support and Inspire Change
“We were to take an old fridge away but the elderly lady seemed distressed. We realised she was struggling with lots of things. After a chat, we quickly changed some light bulbs, reattached her bed head which had broken and moved her armchair closer to the television (she couldn’t see too well). Such a little thing but it made a big difference to her. We call in when we pass and she’s also linked to our Know Your Neighbourhood Project now”
“There are some really terrible days, people in such awful situations, like they’ve given up hope. But something small can make such a difference, listening to them, a cup of tea. It isn’t always about the big things, sometimes it’s just being there when they’re at their lowest to say “you’re not alone””
